      Hi there,

I am planning some long term travel and wondering if you know much about refilling prescriptions abroad. I know there are lots of pharmacies outside the U.S. that sell a lot over the counter that we cannot get without prescriptions, but I want to make sure that I can get my anxiety medications filled. I’ll be travelling for up to sex months (depending on my budgeting!), and I don’t want to bring along 6 months worth of pills as that might look shady to customs agents.

      Any suggestions?

      Hi Callista,

If your doctor is willing to fill 6 months of prescriptions, you should be fine as long as you bring the prescriptions with you, depending on what they are. With a prescription and your passport, you should be able to bring most medicines into most countries. With that evidence, you will not be accused of trafficking.

If you are worried about your medicine getting stolen, then you will need to make arrangements to have your prescriptions filled while you travel. However, they may not be available. Check with the US State dept. http://travel.state.gov/ to find out if your medicines are legal. If they aren’t then you won’t be able to get them filled. And you might want to reconsider bringing them in.
